FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg senior Jason Paredes hit for the cycle as the Bobcats' dropped their final regular-season home game to Penn State Harrisburg, 14-7 Sunday, in the third and final game of the weekend series between the two schools.
Frostburg settles at 11-19-1 overall and 1-16-1 in the league with the loss, while Harrisburg improved to 28-10-1 and 14-7 in the CAC.
Paredes started his afternoon with a solo home run to right center in the bottom of the second inning that narrowed the host deficit to 3-1 after the Lions opened a quick lead following the top of the first two innings.
After a scoreless third inning, Harrisburg scored five in the top of the fourth for an 8-1 advantage. Zachary Koroneos accented the outburst with a two-run double to left center with two outs.
Frostburg answered quickly with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 8-5. Sophomore Josh Clegg scored the first run when Lion pitcher Tyler Jackson was called for a balk.
Junior Mitch Fyffe, the next batter, smacked a double to center that plated sophomore Trey D'Amico and junior Ryan Roell knocked capped the inning with a two-out, two-run homer to center that scored D'Amico. It was Roell's 13
th bomb of the season and moved him into a tie for second on the program's single-season home run list.
Following Roell's homer, Paredes inched closer to his cycle with a triple down the right field line.
PSH tacked on two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to extend its advantage to 11-5 before Frostburg junior Devin Griffith singled to right and scored Paredes, who reached base after smacking a double to right field.
In ninth Harrisburg added three runs in the top of the frame behind a two-run homer from Travis Van Houten. Roell plated the Bobcats' final run in the bottom of the ninth with a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Clegg to cross home plate. Clegg was the first batter up and reached first base on an error and later in the inning Paredes completed his cycle with an infield single to third base.
Sophomore starter Colby Lee took the loss for Frostburg after giving up eight runs, two earned in 4.0 innings tossed, while striking out four.
Roell finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored, while Paredes drove in one and scored twice.
Frostburg returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Southern Virginia at 4:00 pm.
