WINCHESTER, Va. – Randolph-Macon's Derek Marsilio scored on an over-the-head shot as time expired in overtime to lift the Yellow Jackets past Frostburg, 8-7, Tuesday at Shenandoah University.
The Bobcats fall to 7-3 with the loss, while RMC improves to 9-2 with its fifth-straight win.
The game featured five lead changes and six ties and the Bobcats were led in scoring by junior Michael Sipes with three goals and an assist. First-year Matthew Ward finished with three assists.
The Bobcats trailed by one, with 10:47 to play in the fourth quarter after RMC's Colin DiSesa scored a man-up goal for a 6-5 lead.
Frostburg answered with back-to-back goals from Sipes at 9:24 on a man-up opportunity and a score from senior Jake Howarth at 8:12 for a 7-6 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets evened things at seven with a goal from Brandan Markovic.
Frostburg closed regulation with two shots and in OT, RMC keeper Chris Cerrina saved shots from Howarth and Sipes before Marsillo netted the game-winner as time expired.
The Bobcats trailed 3-1 after the opening quarter, but a 3-0 scoring edge in the second gave FSU a 4-3 cushion at halftime. Sipes scored at 14:22 in the second, sophomore Nick Gallagher scored at 5:19 and Sipes found the cage again with 1:39 showing for the halftime lead.
RMC scored the first two goals of the third quarter and junior Jimmy Lucas closed the third with an unassisted tally to send the game to the fourth tied at five.
Frostburg starting keeper Jack Marks notched eight saves, while Cerrina finished with 13. DiSesa and Tiffey each posted three points.
The Bobcats outshot Randolph-Macon 34-26, FSU won 11-of-18 faceoffs and the Bobcats defense killed four of the Yellow Jackets four man-up opportunities.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it hosts No. 1 ranked Salisbury at 11:00 am.
