Bobcats Series Finale Against St. Mary’s (Md.) Ends In A Tie

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State baseball team tied the series finale against St. Mary's (Md.) 5-5 in eight innings on Sunday afternoon due to rain.
The result moves FSU to 11-13-1 overall and 1-11-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play. The Seahawks move to 8-17-2 overall and 2-12-1 in the CAC.

Senior Nick Fuhrmann went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI, while junior Mitch Fyffe went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Junior Mike Livingston threw 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and fanning five batters in a relief effort.

The game started with a scoreless frame until Fyffe roped a single into centerfield to drive home Fuhrmann for the first run of the game in the second inning. St. Mary's responded with three runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 3-1 Seahawks lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Fyffe again singled scoring Fuhrmann after he got on base with two outs. Junior Devin Griffith reached on a throwing error allowing senior Jason Paredes to take advantage and cross the plate.

Again, St. Mary's responded in the top half of the inning. The Seahawks scored two more runs in the top of the fifth making the game a 5-3 SMC lead. FSU scratched one across in the home half of the inning with a Fuhrmann single to cut the deficit in half.

In the seventh inning, Fyffe drove in another run, his third of the game, scoring Fuhrmann to tie the game at five apiece. In the bottom of the eighth FSU was threatening with the bases loaded, but SMC managed to get out of the inning unscathed, and the Bobcats were unable to break the tie.

As the game proceeded, the rain picked up and was eventually the major factor in ending the contest at a draw.

FSU will play a make-up game at Bob Wells Field on Wednesday, April 17 against Mary Washington to wrap up the three-game series against the Eagles. First pitch is set to be thrown at 3:30 p.m. For up-to-date game information, including live stats, visit frostburgsports.com.
