Bobcats Drop 14-10 Decision at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday with a 14-10 loss at Elizabethtown.
 
The Bobcats (7-2) jumped out to a 2-0 cushion behind goals from first-year Matthew Ward just 50 seconds in and junior Paul Ruppert at 11:47.
 
However, FSU was outscored in the second, third and fourth quarters for its first loss since early March.
 
Ruppert scored for the second time in the game just before the midway point of the second quarter to knot things at 5-5 and Ward connected on a shot late in the second quarter as Frostburg' trailed just 7-6 at the break.
 
Frostburg, which was receiving votes in this week's USILA Top-20 poll, hung tough in the third quarter as it was outscored 3-2. Ward found the net for a man-up goal at 5:17 and sophomore Jason Clinton scored at 2:00 as the Bobcats trailed just 10-8 after three quarters.
 
In the fourth, the Blue Jays (4-5) outscored Frostburg 4-2 to earn the win. Clinton scored at 11:01, an unassisted tally, that pulled Frostburg to 12-9. Ward added a man-up goal with 43 seconds left to pull Frostburg to 14-10 at the final horn.
 
Ward led the way for the Bobcats with five points on four goals and one assist, while Ruppert scored twice and handed out one assist. Senior Jake Howarth added one goal and one assist, while Clinton scored twice.
 
Junior Sam Natvig win 10 faceoffs on the afternoon, junior Jimmy Lucas paced Frostburg with five ground balls and junior Jack Marks notched 12 saves in the loss.
 
Etown's Make Scrafano led the way for the hosts with three goals and one assist, while keeper Tom Mahoney stopped eight shots.
 
The Bobcats return to action next Tuesday at the Highland School in Warrenton, Va. against Randolph-Macon at 2:00 pm.
