Late Surge Carries Centre Past Frostburg

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Sophomore Stephanie King registered five points and senior Morgan Cavey totaled four as the Frostburg women's lacrosse team endured a 16-14 loss to Centre in the first of two spring break games in Hilton Head for FSU.
 
The Bobcats fall to 1-6 with the loss, while Centre improves to 8-2 overall on the spring with its seventh–straight victory.
 
Sophomore Lindsay Kohlman scored back-to-back goals late in the first half and junior Molly Biggers scored the final goal of the opening frame as the Bobcats built an 8-6 lead at intermission.
 
Frostburg held the edge on the scoreboard even though both squads attempted 16 shots over the first 30 minutes.
 
The Colonels opened the second with two goals before sophomore Stephanie King found the net for the first time on the afternoon to push Frostburg back into the lead at 9-8.
 
Moments later, the Bobcats collected a 3-0 scoring outburst for a 12-10 cushion. King opened and closed the rally with goals, while sophomore Summer Cavey scored into between.
 
Centre rebounded with six of the game's final eight goals to rally for the win. The Colonels scored two in a row and then connected on three straight for a 16-13 lead.
 
Biggers closed the game with her third goal of the day to set the final at 16-14.
 
Each team posted 16 draw controls and Frostburg led the way with a 27-22 edge in ground balls. However, the Bobcats were just 16-of-31 on clear attempts.
 
Senior Abigail McClure played all 60 minutes and finished with 16 saves, just two off her season-high. King closed the contest with three goals, two assists and three ground balls, while Morgan Cavey scored three times and handed out one assist.
 
Lola Duff posted 14 saves for the win for the Colonels, while both Amelia Tomasulo and Hannah Hardy each collected four points.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Friday morning when it faces Hope at 11:00 am.
