FARMVILLE, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team collected its third sweep of the spring campaign on Saturday with a pair of wins over RIT at the Hampden-Sydney Tournament.
The Bobcats defeated the Tigers 3-2 in eight innings in the opener and FSU downed RIT 10-7 in the second matchup.
The sweep pushes Frostburg's record to 7-0 overall.
Game One:
The first game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel that had 13 strikeouts by Bobcat hurlers. The starter for Frostburg was junior Colby Lee who went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out 11. Junior Franco Velasquez got the win after throwing in the final two frames and fanning two RIT batters.
FSU got a boost offensively from junior Ryan Roell who had a solo home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at two apiece. He went 2-for-4 in the game and scored the winning run after senior Nick Fuhrmann doubled in the eighth inning on a 1-0 count to drive in Roell to end the game.
Game Two:
The Bobcats started the second game with some offense as they scored in the first inning off of a single by sophomore Bret Fogle. The scoring continued as FSU tallied three more runs in the second inning with another single by Fogle, scoring two runs.
Frostburg then scored six runs in the third inning behind senior Jason Parades, Fogle, and junior Mitch Fyffe that scored two runs. Parades hit the only home run in the game smacking a solo shot in the third.
Junior Mike Livingston was on the hill for FSU as he went four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out five to earn the win. Junior Chris Roosevelt came in to get the final four outs to earn his first save of the season.
The Bobcats take the diamond again on Saturday, March 9
th against Eastern in Bel Air, Md. first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Harford Community College.
