Frostburg Falls To No. 4 CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team fell to No. 4 Christopher Newport on the road on Sunday afternoon, 14-6.
 
The Bobcats fall to 10-3, 0-3 against CAC opponents while CNU jumps to 13-2, 3-0 in conference play.
 
Junior leadoff man Jesse Hodge scored the first run of the game on a groundout from junior Devin Griffith after walking and stealing second to open the game.
 
The Captains answered quickly, scoring six runs in the home half of the opening frame, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from infielder Austin Henry with two outs, that gave CNU an early 6-1 lead. The Bobcats scratched back a run in the next half inning on a RBI fielder's choice from Hodge, cutting their deficit to four runs.
 
CNU added a run in the third inning and three more in the fourth on a three-run homer off the bat of first baseman Nicholas Baham to extend the Captains' lead, 10-2.
 
With a runner on first in the fifth inning, Hodge drove a home run to left field to get two runs back for the Bobcats. Sophomore third baseman Bret Fogle smacked a two-run homer of his own in the following inning, bringing FSU back to within four runs, 10-6.
 
With two outs in the home half of the seventh, CNU third baseman Seth Woodard laced a double down the left field line, scoring two runs and increasing the Captain lead, 12-6. Christopher Newport added two more runs in the eighth inning and earned the 14-6 victory.
 
Fogle ended the game going 2-for-4 with his homer and two RBIs. Hodge hit a homer, walked and stole a base, earning three RBIs in the effort.
 
Baham and Woodard each had three hits for the Captains, while Baham drove in four and Woodard knocked in three.
