FSU Drops Opener Versus No.20 Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State baseball team was defeated by No.20 Salisbury on Saturday afternoon, 4-1 in game one of the three-game set against the Sea Gulls.

The loss moves the Bobcats to 10-5, 0-4 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) on the season. While Salisbury moves to 12-4-1, 4-0 in CAC play this season.
Sophomore Jared Mouton found a groove at the plate going 2-for-4 with two singles. While Junior Mitch Fyffe had a double and a run scored.

Salisbury jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after the Bobcats went scoreless in their opening frame. SU lead the inning off with a triple from Cameron Hyder. Hyder later scored on a fielder's choice to make the score 1-0.

Much of the same in the second inning as FSU went down in order and Salisbury scratched across another run. After a leadoff walk and a single, SU scored off another fielder's choice to Mouton to extend the lead to 2-0. Salisbury added another run in the fifth inning scoring Hyder off the double from Jimmy Monaghan.

The top of the seventh inning started with senior Jason Paredes hitting as shot into left-centerfield for a leadoff double. FSU stranded Paredes on third after Mouton went down on strikes.
In the home half, SU had the bases loaded with nobody out before senior pitcher Travis Brashear pitched his way out of the jam only surrendering one run making the score 4-0 Sea Gulls.

In the final frame, Fyffe knocked a double in the gap with two outs in the ninth inning. Fyffe was followed by junior Quin Ambeault who also doubled to cut the lead to 4-1 SU, the eventual final score.
