SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team got career-highs in points from sophomore Lindsay Kohlmann and first-year Shelby Brunett but fell on a last-minute goal to Susquehanna 14-13 on Saturday afternoon.
Kohlmann led the Bobcats with a five points, posting a pair of goals and career-best three assists. Brunett scored her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist for a four-point day.
After an early goal from Susquehanna, the Bobcats surged back with four consecutive goals. Junior Molly Biggers posted the Bobcats' first two goals at 26:27 and 23:37 in the first half. Sophomore Summer Cavey and Kohlmann each posted a goal in the next five minutes to lead 4-1.
After the River Hawks rallied to tie the game at four with 13:25 remaining in the first half, the Bobcats responded with another four-goal spurt to close the first half. Summer Cavey put Frostburg State ahead 5-4, and Brunett scored three times over the final 10 minutes of the half, with two goals coming on free position opportunities.
Senior Morgan Cavey tallied a pair of goals to begin the second half, giving FSU its largest lead of the day at 10-4 with 25:50 remaining in regulation. Susquehanna responded with a five-consecutive goals to pull within one with just under 20 minutes left.
Kohlmann, sophomore Stephanie King and Morgan Cavey each found the back of the net to stretch Frostburg's lead to 13-10 with 6:29 left in the game. Susquehanna rallied back with three free-position goals in the final five minutes to even the contest at 13 with 2:13 remaining.
The ensuing draw control was won by Susquehanna, but Morgan Cavey caused a turnover and sophomore Teresa Stabler grabbed the ground ball. The Bobcats attempted a shot for the go-ahead goal but it was saved by Susquehanna's Libby Dex. The River Hawks fired home the game-winning tally with 12 seconds remaining in the second half.
First-year Sophia Douglas played all 60 minutes between the pipes and registered six saves. Morgan Cavey added three goals and one assist, while Summer Cavey had a pair of goals and a team-best seven draw controls. Biggers scored twice and had an assist.
Defensively, Stabler led the Bobcats with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sophomore Sam Coffey nabbed four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
As a team, Frostburg State set season-highs with 31 total shots and 26 shots on goal. The Bobcats forced Susquehanna into a 16-22 day clearing and 25 turnovers. SU converted on 8-11 free-position attempts while the Bobcats were 4-9.
The Bobcats travel to Hilton Head, S.C. next week for spring break. The Bobcats will take on Centre on Wednesday and Hope on Friday with both games beginning at 11:30 a.m.
