NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team suffered a 72-64 loss at Christopher Newport, Saturday.

The Captains (20-3, 10-2) grabbed a late lead and never looked back, but Frostburg (10-13, 6-6) had its chances to take control of the game.

FSU started the game strong on the defensive end as they held CNU to 1-of-7 shooting from the floor. Frostburg State stuck around in the first half while the Captains largest lead was only eight points.

The Bobcats trailed by four going into halftime with a 36-32 score. Senior Edwin Cole had seven points along with two blocks. Junior Daniel Alexander added seven points while hitting the lone three-pointer for FSU in the first half.
The second half started with two three-pointers by Christopher Newport. An Alexander jump shot sparked a 9-4 run that cut the CNU lead to three 46-43 with 12:31 to go. The Bobcats grabbed their first lead of the second half with 10:23 to go after a Cole three-point play, a layup plus a foul shot.
With 3:53 to go Christopher Newport went on an 8-3 run to grab a 63-56 lead and held it until the conclusion. For the Captains, Marcus Carter scored 15 points along with 12 rebounds.
FSU shot 42% from the floor and held CNU to 38% shooting. The Bobcats only turned the ball over eight times while forcing 12 from Christopher Newport. Cole finished the game with 17 points and eight rebounds. Alexander poured in 15 points and five rebounds.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday when the Bobcats host York (Pa.) in Bobcat Arena on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
