Bobcats' Bats Shine in Double Header Against New Rochelle

FLEMINGTON, N.J. - The Frostburg State baseball team defeated the Blue Angels in both games of their double header at the Diamond Nation Complex with plenty of offensive fireworks, taking the first game, 19-4, and game two, 18-4. 

Game One:

After surrendering a run in the first inning, the Bobcats responded with five of their own, highlighted by two two-run homers, one from sophomore Tre D'Amico and the other off the bat of junior Mitch Fyffe. Senior Jason Paredes laced an RBI double down the left field line to add on the other tally in the bottom of the first. 

FSU didn't look back, as their lead climbed to 10-1 after another five-run outburst in their half of the second inning.  Junior Quin Ambeault started the second inning off with a double that drove in three RBI, followed by an RBI single by Junior Devin Griffith. 

New Rochelle responded with two of their own after a double by Samuel Zambrana drove in a pair of runners. Frostburg then tallied nine more runs with junior Jesse Hodge driving in a couple, and D'Amico hitting a double to score two more. Senior Nick Fuhrmann homered to drive in two as well. 

On the hill, junior Caleb Smith threw six innings only allowing four runs and fanning five to earn the win.

D'Amico ended the game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Fyffe went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Hodge was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Game Two:

FSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning after junior Ryan Roell homered to left field driving in D'Amico, while Fuhrmann hit another homer to right-center.

D'Amico then homered in the following inning, giving the Bobcats a 7-1 advantage.

The Bobcats never looked back after a nine-run fifth inning highlighted by a pair of doubles by D'Amico and Roell. With singles from Paredes and Fuhrmann each driving in one run and scoring a run.

The winning pitcher was junior Mike Livingston who threw four innings and struck out three batters in his season debut. D'Amico finished the game with four RBI while going 3-for-4 from the dish. Roell also had four RBI and went 2-for-4 from the plate. Fuhrmann was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and drove in two of his own.

Frostburg is scheduled to play on Friday, March 1st in Farmville, Virginia against RIT in the Hampden-Sydney Tournament, hosted by Hampden-Sydney. For more information, or to follow the live stats, go to frostburgsports.com.
