Bobcats Drop Conference Matchup

CHARLESTON, W. Va.- The Frostburg State women's basketball fell to the Golden Eagles of Charleston (W. Va). on Saturday afternoon in a 99-56 loss. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference while Charleston jumps to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The first quarter immediately kicked off with a three-pointer from Charleston's Brooklyn Pannell, but Frostburg didn't stay quiet as graduate Victoria Diggs converted on a jumper. Charleston jumped out for a cushioned lead after scoring 11-unanswered points for 12-2 lead.

Senior Amanda Emory broke the Charleston scoring streak when she added three points to the Bobcat tally at the five-minute mark. Sophomores Morgan Dombroski and Drew Dunathan, and first-year Arianna Briggs-Hall added to the scoring, bringing the score to 16-11 with the Bobcats cutting into the Golden Eagles lead. Junior Jada Holland ended the scoring for the quarter bringing the score to 24-16.

The Bobcats started the second quarter by ending an 8-0 run from Charleston when first-year Ciara Thomas hit two layups and a three-pointer for a 36-23 score. The Bobcats answered the Golden Eagles again when Diggs hit a three-pointer with three minutes before the half. Shortly after Thomas converted on two free throws bringing the score to 46-29. Diggs hit another three and Dombroski converted on two free throws bringing the score closer at 46-34.

The third quarter was a slow start for the Bobcats but they kicked off their scoring run with a three-pointer from Thomas for a 63-37 score. Emory added to the scoring after an assist from sophomore Anhai Allen.

In the fourth quarter sophomore, Anna Reese hit a jumper for a 82-41 score. Briggs-Hall hit a layup as well from Allen increasing the Bobcats score. Reese jumped back in the action and hit another layup increasing the score to 84-45.

Allen hit a layup with five minutes remaining that increased the Bobcats score. First-year Kaitlyn Rogers scored after Reese stole the ball from Charleston. Reese then hit her own layup with two minutes remaining for a 95-51 score. Briggs-Hall converted on two free throws after being fouled in the last minute and Reese hit a three-pointer to finalize the score at 99-56.

The Bobcats shot 33.9% from the field with 27.3% from behind the three-point line. Thomas led the team in points with 12. Diggs and Thomas both converted on two three-pointers. Reese also led the team with 5 rebounds while Rogers led in steals with two.

Frostburg returns to action on Wed. December 11 at Glenville State for a 5:30 pm start.
