Swimming Competes At Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Frostburg State swimming teams traveled to Davis & Elkins to take on the Senators and California (Pa.) in a tri-meet. The men fell 170-92 while the women were defeated by D&E 188-67 and by California (Pa.) 191-63.
 
The women had one first-and-second place finishers while the men ended the day taking three events and finishing second in six events.
 
The lone FSU victory for the women came in the 100-yard breaststroke, when senior Megan Culbertson won the event with a time of 1:17.22. Culbertson was also the culprit of the lone second-place result in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:49.52), edging out third place by .60 seconds.
 
In addition, first-year Maya Wilson finished in third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:38.70), Culbertson took home third in the 200-yard IM (2:30.26), and the trio of first-year Rayna Cicen, Culbertson, sophomore Aubree Morris, and junior Taylor Stanback earned bronze in the 200-yard medley relay (2:03.86)
 
The men got off to a fast start with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior Anthony Giuseppetti, first-year James Harmon, first-year Quincy Page, and sophomore Luke Russell combined for an exciting victory in the event (1:42.85), edging out the second-place finishers by two-tenths of a second.
 
Individually, Giuseppeti won the 100-yard backstroke in another tight race (56.22), winning by .14 seconds, and Russell won the 50-yard freestyle (22.47) by .06 seconds.
 
Junior Sawyer Conklin earned a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:06.19) and 500-yard freestyle (5:27.03). Giuseppetti also got silver in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.65), and Russell finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (51.66). Finally, sophomore Adam Stein took home second in the 200-yard IM (2:11.22).
 
To round out the event, the quartet of junior Brady Peterson, Russell, Page, and Giuseppeti went neck-and-neck in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Davis & Elkins swimmers. Unfortunately, the Bobcats would fall short with a time of 3:25.65, finishing .36 seconds behind the Senators' quartet.
 
The Bobcats have Finals' and Christmas weeks off before taking on St. Mary's (Md.) and Southern Virginia in St. Mary's City, Md. for a non-conference tri-meet on January 18 at 1:00 pm.
