Bobcat Men Slip Past D&E

ELKINS, W.Va. - Frostburg senior Daniel Alexander matched a career-high with 33 points and Frostburg held off a late charge from Davis & Elkins for a 76-74 win, Tuesday night.

The Bobcats collect their first MEC victory with the win in Elkins and they now sit at 2-4 overall with a 1-1 league slate.

The Senators fall to 3-4 despite winning three of the last four games entering the matchup with FSU.

Just three days after reaching 1,000 career points, Alexander matched a career-high with 33 points to help catapult the Bobcats to the win.

He was one of three players in double figures for Frostburg. Sophomore Torrin Stephens tossed in a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while junior Leondre Rogers handed out seven assists to go along with 10 points.

The Bobcats led 42-31 at intermission after jumping out to a 16-8 lead early in the first half. Stephens and Alexander each hit a pair of late first-half three-pointers to help the Bobcats to a 42-29 lead with 11 seconds left in the stanza.

In the second half, Alexander hit a jumper at 15:57 as the Bobcats increased their lead to 49-37 and moments later Rogers hit back-to-back baskets as the Bobcat lead swelled to a game-high 16, 56-40.

The Senators closed the gap to six twice above the five-minute mark before pulling to within one 70-69 with 1:48 showing on the clock.

The hosts tied the contest at 71 with 1:07 to play and again at 74 with 14 seconds to play, but free throws from first-year Jaylon Johnson with just seconds left sealed the win.

Both Erkam Kiris and Donta Doleman each scored 20 points for Davis & Elkins in the loss.

Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 pm.
