Bobcats Fall at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – On Saturday afternoon the Bobcats fell to the Shepherd University Rams with a 66-77 loss. The Bobcats move to 1-3 overall while the Rams move to 3-1.

In the first half the Bobcats shot 66.7% from the three point line with sophomore Bo Schene shooting five of six. Schene opened the scoring for the Bobcats as the first points were recorded within the first two minutes of the game. Schene, sophomore Maurice Carroll Jr., and  senior Daniel Alexander all combined their scoring for a 10-5 lead. Frostburg and Shepherd went back and forth as both were shooting from three point line successfully as junior Leondre Rogers and Schene combined to bring the Bobcat lead to 16-14.

The first half continued with Rogers connecting on two free throws at the 12 minute mark for a cushioned 18-14 lead. The Rams made a run with two free throws and a jumper before the Bobcats got back in the mix for a score of 25-18. Shepherd went on a 9-0 run connecting on three three-pointers to close the gap at 25-27 in favor of the Rams. Frostburg finished out the half for with three good three-pointers, layups from sophomores Torrin Stephens and Jasiah Perry, and junior Sean Patterson, and two good free throws from Rogers to bring the score to 42-37 for the Bobcats.

The second half opened with a layup from Carroll Jr. to keep the Bobcat lead. The Rams had an offensive burst as Jarrell Jones started their run for eight points to bring Shepherd within two at 47-45. Senior Demetrich Williams stopped the Rams run with a layup in the paint to keep the Bobcat lead. Senior Daniel Alexander connected on two jumpers for a score of 53-47. The Rams tied the score at 55 when Thomas Lang connected on a three-pointer.

Rogers helped the Bobcats jump back out in front after collecting his own rebound from a missed three-pointer to convert for a layup. The game was tied again at 61 until the Rams' Kyle Daggett hit a three point shot followed by two other Rams players connecting for three bringing Shepherd the lead at 70-61. Rogers and Schene connected on layups but the Bobcats were not able to claim the lead again.

Schene led the team with six of eight made threes and was eight of twelve on field goals for 22 points overall. Alexander and Rogers were active on the court too as they shot six of fifteen for 17 points and five of fourteen for 15 points, respectively. Patterson tallied nine rebounds and  two blocks on the day.
