Frostburg Falls To Notre Dame

FROSTBURG, Md. - On Friday night, the Bobcats lost to the Notre Dame Falcons in a three-set match. Frostburg falls to 11-16 overall 3-12 in the Mountain East Conference while the Falcons advance to 23-10 overall 9-6 in MEC play.
 
The Bobcats fell at home after being defeated by scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-23.
 
Frostburg hit .184 against Notre Dame with 32 kills while also collecting six service aces and 55 digs. First-year Jackie Sterenberg recorded 10 kills and 12 digs while senior Biamba Tshitenge earned six kills and three blocks on the night. First-year Edwyna Lainez earned 23 assists and six digs as senior Cori Smothers recorded ten digs, two assists, and a kill.
 
Frostburg controlled the early stages of the first set jumping out to a 7-1 lead off of two kills from sophomore Haley Altemus, one kill from senior Bailey Godlove, and a Smothers service ace. The Falcons battled back eventually taking the lead during a 7-1 run putting them on top 14-11. The Bobcats cut the score within one point after a 4-1 run off two kills from Sterenberg and one from Smothers making it 18-17. Notre Dame finished the set with a 3-0 run.
 
Early in the second set FSU fell behind but retook the lead with a 4-0 run powered by kills from Altemus and Sterenberg as well as a Godlove service ace making the score 4-3. The Bobcats went on a 6-1 run increasing their lead 10-5 off three kills from Sterenberg and one from Tshitenge. The Falcons heated up late in the set going on a 9-1 run to capture the second set win.   
 
NDC jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the third set. The Falcons continued to control the set until a 4-0 Bobcat run fueled by a kill from Godlove and a service ace from Lainez saw FSU down just four points 15-11. Another 7-1 run by the hosts off of two kills from Sterenberg put the Bobcats within one point 20-19. A 4-1 run by Frostburg off a Godlove kill and a service ace from sophomore Delanie Day tied the game 23-23. Notre Dame scored the next two points winning the match in three sets.
