BUCKHANNON, W.VA. - The Bobcats fell to 3-4 in Mountain East Conference play after dropping a road contest to West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night by a score of 4-0. The loss moves FSU to 3-6-1 overall. While WVWC advances to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in MEC play.
Frostburg State generated great offensive pressure to start the game, registering two shots and two corner kicks within the game's first nine minutes. Both shots came courtesy of junior Brooke Shehade, who forced West Virginia Wesleyan senior goalkeeper Chelsea Hubner to make an early save in the ninth minute.
WVWC would capture the first goal of the game in the 18
th minute as junior Taylor Maucere got one past sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Vigezzi to take a 1-0 lead.
Frostburg ended the first half with an offensive push, registering three shots in the final 15 minutes of the half. Sophomores Mackenzie Folch and Audra Curtin fired shots on goal in the sequence. FSU would outshoot Wesleyan 6-4 in the first 45 minutes.
West Virginia Wesleyan started the second half strong, with two shots on goal in the first three minutes of the second half. Vigezzi was able to get a glove to both shots to keep FSU in striking distance.
WVWC would find the back of the net again in the 56
th minute off a goal from Shannon Shawgo to give them the 2-0 advantage. Wesleyan would double that lead with two more goals in the 63
rd minute and 65
th minute to take a 4-0 lead.
Shehade and Curtin paced FSU's attack with three and two shots, respectively, while both put one shot on goal. Vigezzi recorded six saves in goal for Frostburg.
