ELKINS, W.VA. - The Bobcats dropped a Mountain East Conference contest against Davis & Elkins on Saturday. Frostburg State lost by a score of 1-0 to the hosting Senators as the loss drops the Bobcats to 3-5-1 on the season with a 3-3-0 MEC record the win moves D&E to 5-2-1 overall with a 4-1-0 league record.
First-year Marley Copes booted a team-high four shots three of which being on goal. Senior Brooke Shehade led the starters in shots with three. While sophomore Audra Curtain finished tied for second with two. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Vigezzi ended the match with seven saves on 16 shots faced.
Frostburg was outshot 16-15 by Davis & Elkins, but recorded more saves than the Senators 7-5. D&E attempted six corner kicks to the Bobcats five. The Senators scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute off of senior defender Samantha Cozzolino. The goal was assisted by senior midfielder Asheli Freed.
Frostburg began the second half with a flurry of shots. FSU ended the second half of play outshooting the Senators 11-6 with two on goal. The Bobcats had a Copes shot saved in the 66th minute. The save resulted in an FSU corner kick which sophomore Abbey Dennis connected with that hit the Davis & Elkins crossbar. Curtain later got an opportunity in the 79th minute as the shot to the bottom right corner of the goal was saved.Â
Frostburg State next takes the pitch Wednesday, October 9 as they head to Buckhannon, W.Va. to play West Virginia Wesleyan College at 7:00 p.m.
