Bobcats Pick Up Win Against Glenville State

FROSTBURG, Md. - On Friday evening, the Bobcats defeated the Glenville State College Pioneers in a three set match. Frostburg improves to 10-10 overall and 2-6 in the Mountain East Conference while Glenville falls to 2-18 overall and 0-8 in the MEC.
 
The Bobcats earned the win at home defeating the Pioneers by scores of 25-22, 25-17, and 25-20.
 
FSU hit .330 against GSC with 44 kills. The Bobcats also collected seven service aces and 51 digs. Sophomore Raven Pratt had 15 kills and two blocks on the evening while first-year Jackie Sterenberg recorded nine kills. First-year Edwyna Lainez earned 32 assists and nine digs. Senior Kathryn Lough recorded 11 digs and three service aces while her classmate Cori Smothers had 10 digs and one assist.
 
FSU took the lead 4-3 in the first set off three kills from Sterenberg. Play continued back and forth until a 5-1 run by the Bobcats put them on top 11-9 in the set. Another big 7-1 FSU run fueled by two kills from sophomore Hailey Atlemus and one kill from Pratt and Sterenberg extended their lead 19-14. Frostburg took the set off a kill from senior Bailey Godlove and a GSC error.
 
The Bobcats again took the lead in the beginning of the second set by jumping out in front 4-2 off a kill from Altemus and a kill and service ace from Godlove. An 8-1 Bobcat run powered by two kills from Pratt and one kill from Altemus and Sterenberg in the middle of the set gave FSU the lead 20-12. The set was capped off for the Bobcats by a kill from first-year Bianca Smalls.
 
The Pioneers took the early lead in the third set 3-2 before Frostburg went on a 5-0 run to re-take the lead 9-5. A 6-1 Glenville State run later in the set saw the Pioneers cut the lead down 17-16. It would not be enough to force a fourth set as FSU went on a 7-3 run off two kills from Sterenberg and one kill from Altemus and Pratt to take the match win.
