Shehade Hands Frostburg OT Win

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg senior forward Brooke Shehade hit an arching left footed shot in overtime that snuck into the top left corner of the net to give the Bobcats a 2-1 win over West Liberty, Wednesday.

Shehade has now scored in four-consecutive games and Wednesday's goal couldn't have come at a better time. The matchup between the Bobcats (6-7-1, 6-5 MEC) and Hilltoppers (2-7-4, 2-4-4) couldn't be decided in 90 minutes and appeared headed for a second extra frame until Shehade's score came with just 28 seconds left.

She chased down a loose ball just outside the 18 and pivoted to her left before firing the ball towards the net. The high shot curled its way into the top corner for her fourth game-winner of the fall.

Shehade's goal was Frostburg's 13th shot of the evening as the hosts outshot the Hilltoppers by one. Senior keeper Emily Faust needed seven saves to help secure the victory for FSU and senior Jesse Dunagan even cleared a shot off the goal line in the 33rd minute.

Claire Kelly scored the first goal of the night when she took a cross from Nikki Lolua in the 23rd minute for a 1-0 West Liberty lead. Lolua dribbled the ball to the end line before centering a pass to the top of the 18 to a wide open Kelly for the score.

Frostburg hit the equalizer at 37:27 off a corner kick that was taken by Shehade. As the ball sailed towards the goal, sophomore Abbey Dennis headed the ball into the back of the net to knot things at one.

Shehade opened the second half with two attempts and she ripped a left footed shot from the right side of the 18 that hooked just right of the net at 25:15.

The Hilltoppers had a potential one-on-one situation in the 68th minute as a long pass was bouncing towards the 18 and WLU's Julia Specht ran onto the ball. Her left footed shot bounced in front of Bobcat keeper Emily Faust before she secured the ball for the save.

Bobcat sophomore Alexis Dell took a shot from long distance near the top of the 18 in the 74th minute that forced a diving save from keeper Olivia Montgomery.

West Liberty had another chance to surge into the lead when Kaelyn Oskin took a hard shot from the far-right side that skidded in front of the goal that Faust dove and deflected out of bounds.

Faust posted her final two saves in OT, including a free kick save at 93:37 before Shehade won it for Frostburg.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they host Notre Dame at 1:00 pm.
