Bobcats Fall On Senior Day To Notre Dame

FROSTBURG, Md. - Notre Dame scored a goal in each half to rally past Frostburg State, Saturday on the Bobcats' senior day at a cold and damp Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats settle at 6-8-1 overall and 6-6 in the MEC with just their second loss in the last five games.

FSU struck early in the opening half of play. First-year Marley Copes hit a long through ball down the middle of the field to senior Brooke Shehade. Shehade corralled the pass, dribbled around the Notre Dame keeper to the left and smacked a rolling, left-footed attempt into the wide open net for a 1-0 lead. Several Falcon players had a chance to kick the ball wide of the net, but the shot was too strong and resulted in Shehade's 13th goal of the fall season.

At 22:44, Shehade had another chance for a score as she ripped a left footed attempt towards the left side of the net from just inside the 18 that forced a diving save from keeper Jordan Pasalaqua.

Notre Dame hit the first half equalizer in the 31st minute when April Gaukin knocked a shot into the upper part of the net past Bobcat keeper Emily Faust off an assist from Isabel Sentle.

Notre Dame had a chance to take the lead late in the first half when FSU was whistled for a foul at 41:55. The Falcons were awarded a free kick from outside the 18 and the ensuing shot from Gaukin sailed high, glancing off the top of the cross bar and out of play.

The Falcons attempted the first shot of the second half (50:52) when Lauren Chaney took a long shot from outside the 18 towards the right side of the net that forced Faust to move to her left and catch the attempt.

Notre Dame took a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute when Isabel Sentle hit a low shot that found the net off a feed from Alyssa Soltis. The Falcons (7-3-4, 6-2-3) outshot FSU 10-5 and was awarded all six corners in the game.

Faust finished with three saves in the loss, while Pasalaqua stopped four shots for the victory.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday at Urbana at 4:00 pm.
