Frostburg Picks Up A Win At Salem

SALEM, W.Va. - On Sunday afternoon, the Bobcats defeated the Salem University Tigers in a four set match. Frostburg improves to 9-10 overall and 1-6 in the Mountain East Conference while Salem falls to 1-27 overall.
 
Frostburg earned the road win by beating Salem 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, and 30-28.
 
FSU hit .340 against the Tigers with 57 kills. The Bobcats also collected 11 service aces and 22 digs. Sophomore Hailey Altemus had 21 kills and five digs on the afternoon while senior Bailey Godlove and sophomore Raven Pratt had eight kills. First-year Edwyna Lainez earned 37 assists and eight kills. Senior Cori Smothers recorded five digs and three service aces while her classmate Kathryn Lough had six digs and one service ace.
 
Frostburg took the lead in the first set 3-2 off two Tiger errors and a kill from Altemus. Salem took back the lead later in the set 15-9 before a 6-0 run by the Bobcats behind three service aces from first-year Jordan Patrick tying the game 15-15. Two kills by first-year Jackie Sterenberg earned the first set win for FSU.  Salem started the second set by taking the lead 5-3 off of three kills from sophomore Jalavia Johnson. A 6-0 Tiger run put them in control 16-8. A senior Laine Moser kill gave SU the second set win.
 
The Bobcats started the third set by taking the lead 4-3 powered by two kills from Altemus, one kill from Lainez, and a service ace from Smothers. Salem then went on a 5-0 run taking the lead 8-4. Later in the set Frostburg put together a 6-0 run to go ahead 16-12. Four Altemus kills powered a 5-1 run for the Bobcats to win the third set.   
 
Salem took control on the beginning of the fourth set after taking the lead 9-4. A 5-0 Tiger run later in the set put SU on top 14-6. The Bobcats battled back with an impressive 12-0 run fueled by two services aces from Smothers and two kills from Godlove before two kills from Altemus earned the match win for Frostburg.
