WHEELING, W.Va. – Senior Brooke Shehade scored or assisted on four of the five Bobcat goals as the Frostburg State women's soccer team bounced back Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 victory at Wheeling. The win improves the Bobcats' record to 5-7-1 and a .500 mark in MEC play at 5-5.
Much like the first meeting between the two teams, Frostburg struck early. Junior Danielle McClain passed to senior Brooke Shehade who found sophomore Audra Curtin for the game's ice-breaking goal in the eighth minute of play.
In the 31st minute, Shehade scored for the third straight game, a laser into the high left side of the net after getting an assist from first-year player Kara Kramer. The assist marked Kramer's first career point as a Bobcat.
In the second half, Shehade lobbed a corner kick deep into the 18-yard box and sophomore Abbey Dennis capitalized with a header over the Wheeling goalkeeper senior Megan Herter for her first career goal.
Shehade would then get past the Wheeling defense and was able to poke the ball just past Herter for her final tally. Kramer would again assist the senior on the score.
To add icing on the cake, first-year Marley Copes recorded an unassisted goal late in the game. It marked her second goal in three games.
Senior Emily Faust played 73 minutes in net and made four saves. Sophomore Stephanie Vigezzi relieved her for the final 17 minutes and tallied a save as well.
Wheeling and Frostburg played a mostly even first half. The Bobcats held a narrow 7-5 edge in shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
Fortunately for the Bobcats, they took control of the latter 45 minutes of play, outshooting the Cardinals 15-5 in the second half, 22-10 for the game. Shehade had a game-high six shots, while Curtin, Copes, and senior Erika Allen added a trio of shots.
Frostburg turns its attention to West Liberty at home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
