ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior Amanda Emory posted her third career double-double and senior Victoria Diggs came off the bench to score 17 points as Frostburg rallied to defeat St. Mary's (Md.), 60-55, Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (4-10, 0-3) led by as many as six points on two occasions in the fourth quarter before the Bobcats (10-2, 2-0) rallied for their sixth-consecutive win.
Bobcat senior Megan Kelly started the run with a three-pointer at 4:48 and Emory followed with a layup a minute later that pulled FSU to within one, 50-49.
At 2:08, Emory knotted the game at 50 with a free throw and Kelly connected on another three-pointer to give Frostburg a 53-50 lead.
Diggs hit a pair of free throws at 1:37 and another pair at 1:14 and both sets of FTs game Frostburg five-point leads. Junior Victoria Yoder connected on 3-of-4 foul shots inside the final 21 seconds to set the final at 60-55.
Frostburg shook off an early deficit to lead by as many as nine in the first quarter on an Emory jumper with just under a minute left for a 16-7 cushion. The Seahawks rebounded in the second quarter when they opened the frame on a 10-4 run that gave them a two-point cushion, 20-18, at 6:14.
The Bobcats closed the first half with six-straight points from Emory for a 30-26 lead at intermission. The hosts outscored Frostburg 18-12 in the third and led by two, 44-42, heading into the fourth.
Emory scored 18 points behind 8-of-12 at the foul line. She added six steals, four blocks and an assist. Junior Sydney Stotler scored just three points, but pulled down 12 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end. Diggs hit three three-pointers and was 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
St. Mary's finished with three starters in double figures. LaTavia Washington scored a game-high 19 points, while Hallie Persell scored 11.
FSU travels to Southern Virginia on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
