Bobcats Collect Second League Victory

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Four players finished in double figures, including three starters and the Frostburg men's basketball led from the opening tip to the final horn in an 82-69 win over St. Mary's, Saturday.
 
The league win is the second on the week for the Bobcats and improves their overall record to an even 6-6.
 
Senior Edwin Cole and junior Lawrence Pettis each scored 22 points to lead Frostburg in scoring. Junior Daniel Alexander added 17 points, while junior Terry Kenner led the bench with 15 points.
 
The Bobcats connected on 16 first-half baskets as they raced out to a 10-point lead, 12-2, just over five minutes into action. Just past the midway point of the opening half, Pettis hit a three-pointer followed by a three from Kenner as FSU's lead swelled to 15, 28-13 at 7:08.
 
The Bobcats kept their foot down and scored baskets on three-straight possessions starting at 4:53. Cole hit a layup at 3:43 on the third trip down the floor as the Bobcat lead stood at 18, 36-18.
 
The Seahawks (6-7, 0-2) closed the first half on an 11-2 run that narrowed its deficit to 38-29 at intermission.
 
St. Mary's carried that momentum into the second half as it opened with back-to-back buckets to further trim the deficit to five, 38-33, just 50 seconds into action.
 
Frostburg answered with three-pointers from Cole and Pettis to extend the lead back to 11, 44-33, at 17:54.
 
The Bobcats kept their lead above 10 for much of the second half and they increased it to 21 twice before winning by 13. Cole hit a layup at 12:57 and first-year Torrin Stephens hit a layup at 12:21 as FSU led by 21 on each basket.
 
Spencer Schultz led St. Mary's with 17 points, while Zach Spooner came off the bench to score 15.
 
FSU travels to Southern Virginia on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
