SALEM, W.Va. – The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming teams kicked off the 2019 portion of their schedule in West Virginia, taking on host Salem and Bethany (W.Va.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcat women went 2-0 on the day, defeating Salem 143-98 and Bethany 182-26. The Bobcat men earned a 124-124 tie with Salem and topped Bethany 160-66.
The FSU women's team posted seven individual wins and two relay victories on the afternoon. Senior Maddie Weinberger and junior Rebecca Marsh each picked up two individual wins and contributed to at least one relay victory
Weinberger won the 100-yard breaststroke with an ECAC-qualifying 1:09.89 and took home the 200-yard breaststroke with an effort of 2:33.43. Marsh posted wins in distance and a sprint with her efforts in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:35.44) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.55). First-year Aubree Morris took second in the 100-yard freestyle by under a second at 58.70.
First-year Gabby Thompson added a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:39.51 with sophomore Taylor Stanback placing second at 2:40.74.
Senior Emily Turner took home the meet title in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:21.48 and junior Megan Culbertson won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:30.54. Culbertson added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:10.97 while Turner was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.52).
Junior Elizabeth Myers took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.85),
Turner, Weinberger, Morris and Culbertson combined to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.64.
Turner, Weinberger and Culbertson, along with Marsh closed the meet with the top time in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 4:02.74.
For the Frostburg State men, the Bobcats took home three individual titles and one relay crown at Salem.
First-year Adam Stein picked up the Bobcats' first win of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 10:41.79. He placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with an effort of 5:08.37.
Sophomore Luke Holloway emerged victorious in the 50-yard freestyle, sprinting to victory at 22.72. First-year Luke Russell finished second in the 50-yard freestyle at 23.26 and was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (53.35).
Sophomore Anthony Giuseppetti won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.40 and added a second-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:53.55.
Junior Hunter McFalls finished second in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:07.05 while sophomore Brady Peterson was second in the 100-yard butterly (55.84). Holloway added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard individual medley as well, completing the circuit in 2:05.43.
The Bobcat relay combination of Giuseppetti, Russell, first-year Cameron Edwards and Holloway won the 400-yard freestyle relay with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:27.90.
Giuseppetti, Stein, Edwards and Holloway placed second in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:47.62.
FSU returns to Bobcat Natatorium for its final home meet of the season Friday, Feb. 1 to take on Alderson Broaddus at 6:00 p.m.
