FROSTBURG, Md.
– On Friday night, the Bobcats lost to the Christopher Newport Captains in a four set match. The Bobcats fall to 5-14 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Captains advance to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Kills by junior Biamba Tshitenge and first-year Haley Altemus powered the Bobcats to an opening score of 6-1 in the first set. With a commanding lead by Frostburg, the Captains responded with three kills and a variety of errors in their favor. With the set now within a point, it was back and forth with each team having a three point run on four different occasions. With the set still within one point, the Captains made a late comeback from kills by juniors Riley Garrison and Katie Piper. With two errors, the Bobcats were able to take the lead with then the deciding point became a kill from junior Ashante Corey-Bey to win the set.
The second set started slow for the Bobcats as they fell into a 4-0 deficit. Kills by junior Bailey Godlove and Altemus brought Frostburg out of that deficit. Corey-Bey and junior Katie Onyundo also powered the Bobcats to come within the Captains. The Captains then had an 11-0 run to decide the set in favor of the Captains. The third set fell in favor of the Captains with a score of 25-14. The opening run by the Captains gave them a commanding lead to stay in front and claim the set.
The fourth set mimicked much of the second with a large lead for Christopher Newport. The Bobcats finished the fourth set with three kills and a variety of errors in their favor for a 25-10 final score of the set.
The Bobcats return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 3:00pm at Bobcat Arena.
