GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team defeated Gettysburg on the road by the final of 1-0 on Tuesday Night, highlighted by a career-match from goalie Rhianna Lapen.
Frostburg put the only tally on the board early in the match, as Brooke Shehade deposited the Bobcats' first shot into the back of the net in the sixth minute of action, for her first goal of the season. Junior midfielder Gwen Schemm was awarded the assist on the play, giving her her first point on the season.
The Gettysburg women's soccer team, which is ranked 10
th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, bombarded Lapen in the first half with 17 shots, the FSU keeper did not falter, as she saved all seven shots on goal to lead her team into the locker room with a 1-0 halftime lead.
The second half was more of the same from the Gettysburg offense, as it continued their assault against the Frostburg defense, taking 15 shots with eight being on goal. However, Lapen was up for the second-half challenge. She blocked all eight shots, bringing her total up to 15 for the match, easily a new career-high for the senior in the shutout victory.
Overall, the Gettysburg offense outshot the Bobcats 32-11 and 15-5 in shots on goal. The Frostburg women also didn't have an opportunity to create offense with a corner kick the entire match, while the Bullets had four.
Frostburg's record increases to 2-6 on the year after the road victory, while the Bullets fall to 5-3-1 on their campaign. The victory snaps a six-game losing streak for the Bobcats.
FSU's next game will again be on the road, as they travel to Salisbury to take on their first CAC opponent this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
