SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Frostburg State Bobcat volleyball team lost to both Rochester and host Susquehanna in the Hampton Inn River Hawk Classic on Saturday.

The Bobcats were defeated in their first match of the day against Rochester, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) before falling to Susquehanna, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-16)

Rochester
The first set started well for the Bobcats, rattling off six-straight points to turn an early 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 advantage. The run included two aces from first year Haley Altemus. The Yellowjackets stormed backed to score nine of the game's next 10 points to take an 11-7 lead and never looked back, taking the first set, 25-15.

The second set saw the Bobcats rally back after trailing 15-7, by scoring nine of the next 10 points. The run included a 7-0 spurt headlined by two aces from junior Hannah Brown and six errors from Rochester, to tie the score at 16-16. Then momentum shifted to the Yellowjackets' side, as they started to pull away to a 25-20 set win, giving them a 2-0 advantage.

The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 14-6 lead, thanks in part to two separate 4-0 runs against FSU, and never relented, as they took the final set, 25-12 to clinch the match.

The Bobcats were led in the first match of the day by Altemus, who collected five kills and two service aces. Junior Biamba Tshitenge, who earned all-tournament honors, had three kills of her own and an ace. Junior Katie Onyundo paced the Bobcats in assists (7) and digs (9) against Rochester.

Susquehanna
The Bobcats' second match of the afternoon started with a 3-0 run with two aces from junior Katie Onyundo. Susquehanna quickly responded with five unanswered points of their own, and they never relinquished the lead. Along with their first 5-0 run, the River Hawks had two other 4-0 runs to lead them to a 25-15 set victory.

The River Hawks scoring continued in the second set, as three 4-0 runs allowed them to jump out to a 23-12 lead. The Bobcats tried to answer back, scoring seven unanswered points to shrink the deficit to just four. Sophomore Rachel Snead was responsible for two of those seven points, collecting a pair of kills during the run. Susquehanna would collect the set's last two points to give them a 2-0 advantage.

FSU came out firing in the third set, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, featuring two kills from Altemus. The resilient River Hawks would then score four straight points to retake the lead. The River Hawks would go on to win the final set and the match behind a four and five-point runs to deliver them to the 25-16 victory.

Junior Cori Smothers collected a game-high 19 digs, while Altemus added 15 digs and led the Bobcats with six kills.

The Bobcats (5-13, 0-1 CAC) will look to bounce back in their next match, which will take place on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against nationally-ranked Christopher Newport at home.
