Women’s Soccer Falls In Final Minute At Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's soccer battled with Chatham into double overtime but fell 2-1 on a last-minute goal on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bobcats fall to 1-6 on the season while Chatham moves to 5-2.
 
Neither team scored in the first half despite Frostburg firing five shots on goal compared three for Chatham. Senior Anais Ventura fired two shots on goal in the first half while juniors Gwen Schemm and Jesse Dunagan and senior Hailey Turney each had chances saved.
 
In the second half the Cougars outshot FSU 12-3 and took a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. Frostburg responded quickly with Turney sending home her first goal of the season in the 66th minute.
 
Following the equalizer Chatham outshot Frostburg 8-1 over the remaining time left in regulation. Senior goalkeeper Rhianna Lapen made five saves over the final ten minutes of play, including two in the final 30 seconds.
 
In overtime the Bobcats did not record a shot while the Cougars took three, but were unable to find the back of the net.
 
In the second overtime, Frostburg attempted five shots to Chatham's one over the first eight minutes of the period, however Chatham's Victoria Vernail scored the game winner with 38 seconds remaining in the final overtime.
 
Ventura paced the Bobcats with four shots with two on goal. Turney attempted three shots with two on frame as well. Lapen finished her day with a career-high 10 saves.  
 
In total, Chatham outshot Frostburg 23-16 and had a 12-9 edge in shots on goal. The Cougars outshot Frostburg 18-8 after the first half of play. Chatham notched eight corners to two for FSU.
 
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday night in at Gettysburg at 7:00 p.m.
