HARRISONBURG, Va. – Senior Molly Pickard scored late to tie the game at 2-2, but its wasn't enough as Eastern Mennonite scored with less than four minutes left in regulation to lift the host Royals to a 3-2 win over Frostburg State, Wednesday.
Skylar Hedgepeth scored the first goal for the Royals at 2:04 in the first half for a quick 1-0 lead.
Over 64 minutes later, she scored the game-winner that broke the 2-2 tie. She tipped home a cross from Lauren Hartzler at 66:20 that improved the host's record to 4-1.
EMU's second goal came off the stick of Rachel Breslin in the 13
th minute as it took a 2-0 advantage.
Bobcat senior Ashleigh Myers smashed home a shot from the left side in the 55
th minute to narrow Frostburg's deficit to 2-1. First-year Taylor Hacket was credited with the assist and the goal came shortly after Frostburg was awarded a penalty corner.
Frostburg continued its surge when it evened the contest at 2-2 less than 10 minutes later when Pickard scored her first of the season off a centering pass from senior Holly Van Wie.
Frostburg outshot the Royals 20-12, but only five of the Bobcats' shots were on net. Van Wie led the Bobcats with five shots in the contest, while Myers attempted three. Junior netminder Sierra Smizer knocked away five shots.
Rachel Breslin led Eastern Mennonite with six shots and Hannah Nichols passed out two assists.
Frostburg returns to action next Tuesday when it hosts Goucher at 7:00 pm.
