Bobcat Field Hockey Drops Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg first year Emy Nelson turned in quite an impressive collegiate debut as the Bobcats endured a 2-0 loss to Elizabethtown, Friday afternoon.

The Blue Jays (1-0) scored a goal with no time remaining on the clock in the first half and tacked on their second goal in the 58th minute of the second. Maggie Fees was credited with both assists as she found Lauren Scheib for the goal and connected with Olivia Beachley on for the second.

Despite the shutout loss, Nelson registered a pair of defensive saves in her first collegiate action.

Nelson's first save came at 33:28 in the first half as a shot from Fees was initially knocked to the side by FSU keeper Sierra Smizer. However, the ball was trickling towards the goal when Nelson cleared it from the backline.

Her second defensive save came in the second stanza when a high shot was careening towards the center of the goal when Nelson again got a stick on the shot and saved another goal.

Frostburg was outshot on the afternoon 13-3, while sophomore Gabby Rachuba paced FSU with two shots. Both of her shots were saved by Blue Jay keeper Margo Donlin. Smizer finished with four saves in net.

The Bobcats travel to Lynchburg on Monday for a non-league tilt at 4:00 pm.
