Baseball Falls to York (Pa.) in CAC Tournament; Faces Salisbury Next in Game Two

SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-seeded Frostburg State baseball team suffered a 17-5 setback to York (Pa.) in the first game of the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.
 
Frostburg will take the field in game two, aiming to keep its season alive against host Salisbury at approximately 12:30 p.m. in what has become an elimination game for the Bobcats.
 
The Spartans return to action later today against Salisbury following the conclusion of game two.
 
Senior outfielder Colton Sivic launched a three run home run for Frostburg in the third inning to highlight the offensive attack. Sivic, who hit his second home run of the season, has hit .750 (6-of-8) with one home run, three RBI, one double and six walks over the last three games.
 
Junior pitcher Brady Adam made the start on the mound for Frostburg and was chased early, allowing six runs and five hits in 2.1 innings.
 
The Bobcats turned to their bullpen, using senior Dan Richardson, junior Chase Delost, senior Lane Ward, junior Travis Brashear and first-year Bret Fogle.
 
The Spartans jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before Sivic cut the Spartan lead to 4-3 with his home run. York responded with a home run in the top of the third for a 6-3 edge.
 
Frostburg added a run in the fourth inning on a single from senior outfielder Evan Colon that scored junior infielder Nick Fuhrmann as Frostburg trailed 6-4.
 
The Spartans pulled away with three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, six runs in the eighth and one in the ninth.
 
Junior catcher Jason Paredes converted with an RBI double in the ninth, scoring sophomore infielder Devin Griffith for the 17-5 final.
 
Frostburg had several opportunities to score with the lead-off man reaching base safely in four innings.
 
Joel Kenny went the distance for York, notching his third complete game of the season.
