FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Morgan Cavey and first-year Stephanie King each scored five goals and handed out one assist as Frostburg defeated Wesley, 14-11, for its first CAC win Sunday.
The Bobcats improved to 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the CAC with the win. Meanwhile, Wesley falls to 5-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Cavey's five goals mark the third time this season she has scored five or more in a game, while the mark stands as a career-high for King.
King found the net three times in the opening half to help Frostburg to a 7-4 cushion at intermission. Cavey responded with three of her scores in the second half that helped FSU seal the win.
Senior Courtney Ridenour finished with two goals and one assist, while first-year Lindsay Kohlmann scored one goal and handed out an assist.
Sophomore keeper Emalie Mayo played just over 50 minutes in goal and notched eight saves for the win, while sophomore Sidney Serres led the Bobcats with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
King opened the afternoon with a goal at 25:49 for a 1-0 lead. She added her second goal seven minutes later for a 2-1 lead. Cavey got in on the scoring action with goals at 12:45 and again at 8:36 as the Bobcats led 6-1.
Wesley answered with three goals late in the half to narrow its deficit to 7-4 at the break.
Cavey opened the second half with a goal just 1:10 into play before the Wolverines made things interesting with three-straight goals to pull to within 8-7.
Frostburg increased its lead to 11-7 with three-straight goals, including two from Cavey and one from Kohlmann.
Wesley answered with two goals to pull to within two at 11-9. Over the final 18 minutes, the two teams traded goals until the final horn.
First-year Wynnanne Walters scored at 18:04 and King scored the final two goals for Frostburg at 12:31 and again with 1:44 showing to set the final at 14-11.
Frostburg outshot the visiting Wolverines 46-27 and caused 10 Wesley turnovers.
Fallon Fore led the way in scoring for Wesley with five goals and seven draw controls.
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they visit Southern Virginia at 4:00 pm.
