Women’s Lacrosse Wins Second Straight In CAC Play

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team scored the game's first five goals and never let up in a 13-6 win over Southern Virginia, Wednesday.
 
With the victory, the Bobcats move to 5-7-1 and 2-3 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play. SVU falls to 5-8, 0-5 in league play.
 
Junior Morgan Cavey scored five goals for the second game in a row, while sophomore Molly Biggers, junior Courtney Ridenour and first-year Summer Cavey each added two. Senior Samantha Cataldo scored one and handed out two assists, while first-year Stephanie King scored once and handed out one assist.
 
Frostburg State began the scoring with Summer Cavey connecting on the Bobcats' first shot of the day with 28:31 remaining in the first half. Quick thereafter, junior Jessica Hartley secured the ensuing draw control and Ridenour fired home FSU's second goal just 27 seconds later.
 
The Bobcats' third shot of the afternoon also hit its mark in the form of a free-position strike from sophomore Molly Biggers at 26:22.
 
Summer Cavey and Biggers each added another goal with Summer Cavey cashing in on her second of the day with 19:08 to play, and Biggers giving Frostburg a 5-0 advantage at 15:47.
 
After a Southern Virginia goal, Morgan Cavey and Cataldo joined the scoring fray with Morgan Cavey's goal at 9:14 and Cataldo giving FSU an 8-1 edge with 3:45 to go in the half.
 
SVU scored at 2:33 and Morgan Cavey added her second goal with a man-up score at 37 seconds remaining in the first off an assist by Cataldo. The Bobcats led 9-2 at the half while winning 10-of-12 draw controls and outshooting SVU 21-8 over the first 30 minutes.
 
Morgan Cavey's third and fourth goals came in the second half at 26:54 and again at 15:37 with a pair of Knight goals sandwiched in between.
 
Cataldo found Morgan Cavey for her fifth and final score with 9:12 to play and first-year Lindsay Kohlmann assisted a King goal with 8:03 showing.
 
The Bobcats' 13 goals came on 30 shots and the visitors finished with 14 draw controls. Sophomore Sidney Serres paced Frostburg with three ground balls, while junior keeper Abigail McClure notched eight saves in the win.
 
Caiti Knowles scored two goals to pace SVU.
 
The Bobcats continue along their three-game CAC road trip with a tilt against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
