ALTOONA, Pa. – The Frostburg State baseball team concluded its weekend by winning two of its three games following a 7-5 triumph over non-conference opponent Penn State Altoona on Sunday afternoon at Juniata Civic Field.

Frostburg (19-11) used a timely five-run eighth inning to forge ahead late against Penn State Altoona (8-17) and win its second game in as many days.

The Bobcats posted 12 hits on the day and used the eighth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit.

In addition to Tackovich, junior infielder Brock Antognoni, junior outfielder Brady Adam, senior outfielder Kyle Burger and senior infielder Patrick Bosley all notched a pair of knocks each.

Junior pitcher Chase Delost (3-1) picked up his third win of the season with four impressive innings of relief for Frostburg. Delost allowed just three hits and one unearned run with three strikeouts. The Pasadena, Md. native has surrendered just two earned runs and seven hits over his last five relief appearances.

Frostburg turned to senior Lane Ward to start the game on the mound, marking his second start of the season and first since March 25. Ward tossed four innings against the Lions, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits with six walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts.

PSA opened the game with a 3-0 lead before the Bobcats scored their first run of the afternoon in the third inning, a sacrifice fly to left for senior Logan Corrigan to cut the Lions lead to 3-1. Frostburg pulled to within one in the fourth inning off a single from Takovich that scored Bosley.

The Lions responded with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings for a 5-2 edge.

Frostburg made its second to last turn at the plate count with five runs in the eighth inning. Burger and sophomore Devin Griffith each reached on an error and advanced 90 feet to second and third on a Bosley single. Junior catcher Jason Paredes converted the bases loaded situation with a double that scored Burger and Griffith, cutting the PSA lead to 5-4.

With two on and nobody out, Takovich handed Frostburg a 6-5 lead with a bases-clearing double down the right field line that scored Paredes and Bosley. Senior Evan Colon advanced Takovich to third with a sacrifice bunt and Takovich eventually scored with a single from Antognoni for a 7-5 lead.

The Bobcats also got one inning of relief work from junior pitcher Daniel Ryczek. He did not allow a hit and retired worked through a walk to retire the final two batters of the fifth inning.
