Baseball Falls Behind Early in Road Loss at York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. – The Frostburg State baseball team found an offensive rhythm late but could not overcome a 10-run fourth inning from York (Pa.) in an 18-7 setback Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play at Jaquet Field.

Frostburg (17-10, 5-7 CAC) trailed 16-0 at one point against the host Spartans (14-13-1, 7-6 CAC) but countered with seven of the final nine runs in the game.

Senior Kyle Burger, junior Jason Paredes and senior Patrick Bosley led the offensive attack with two hits each. The Bobcats spread the wealth offensively with nine different players recording at least one knock in the conference matchup.

The Spartans opened up the game with a run in the first inning and four runs in the second for a quick 5-0 lead.

Senior pitcher Greg Schneider (6-2) posted his shortest start of the season with 3.2 innings of work. He allowed 12 hits and 15 runs (six earned) with four strikeouts and a walk. Schneider has been a model of consistency all season long and had allowed a combined 13 runs in his seven starts this season.

The Spartans pulled away with 10 runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open.

Despite its 15th double-digit hit game of the season, Frostburg committed four errors and surrendered 11 unearned runs to the Spartans. Frostburg scored single runs in the seventh and eighth and wrapped up its day at the plate with five runs in the ninth.

Paredes collected his second home run of the season in the ninth inning with a two-run shot to left. Junior outfielder Paul D'Amico III, who notched an RBI single in the previous inning, scored on the play.

Junior Nick Fuhrmann put Frostburg on the board with a homer to left, his third of the season, as Frostburg trailed 16-1 in the seventh. It is the second home run in four games for Fuhrmann, who smacked a grand slam against Marymount (Va.) on April 12.
