Men’s Lacrosse Rolls On Senior Day

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg men's lacrosse team scored goals in bunches on Saturday as it rolled to a 12-6 win over St. Mary's on senior day.
 
The Bobcats improved to 9-6 overall with their fifth-straight win. During that stretch, Frostburg is outscoring its opponents by nearly six goals and that number was spot on in the game with the Seahawks (4-11, 1-5).
 
More importantly, the CAC win keeps the Bobcats in fourth place in the league standings with games against nationally-ranked York (Pa.) and Salisbury left in the regular season.
 
Against St. Mary's, the Bobcats used scoring clusters of four, three and five goals to pick up the win.
 
Prior to the game, 11 seniors were honored for their careers as a Bobcat and all 11 appeared in the box score in one form or another.
 
Senior Nate Collins powered the Bobcat attack with a career-high four goals and two assists for a career-best six points. He has scored in each of the last seven games and has 14 goals during that stretch.
 
Senior Adam Gross was second on the afternoon with two goals and three assists, while seniors Keegan Colegrove and Daniel Paladino each scored once.
 
Paladino scored Frostburg's first goal of the game with 8:10 left in the first that kick started a 4-0 scoring jolt for the Bobcats that put them in the lead for good at 4-1 early in the second quarter.
 
The senior trio of Collins (8:21), Gross (6:36) and Colegrove (5:37) scored three-straight goals in the second quarter that helped the Bobcats to a 7-3 halftime cushion.
 
Collins stole the show in the third quarter with three of Frostburg's four goals that were part of a larger 5-0 run that covered the entire third frame and the first goal of the fourth quarter.
 
Gross connected with Collins on the first two scores that opened the second half and Collins later scored with seven seconds left in the third quarter for a 12-3 cushion. First-year Jason Clinton scored off a pass from sophomore Jake Howarth for Frostburg's final goal with 11:39 showing in the fourth quarter.
 
St. Mary's closed the game with the final three goals to close the final gap to 12-6.
 
Frostburg outshot St. Mary's 34-25 and the hosts won 12-of-22 faceoffs.
 
Sophomore Jack Marks stopped 10 shots for his fifth double-digit effort of the spring. Senior Bradley Jones and sophomore Garrett Colvin each caused three turnovers, while Marks led the way with seven ground balls.
 
Ray LaPlaca led the Seahawks with two goals, while Luke McWright handed out two assists.
 
The Bobcats host No. 2 ranked York (Pa.) this Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
