No. #9/15 Baseball Falls in Conference Opener to Marymount (Va.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The ninth-ranked Frostburg State baseball team got a strong pitching performance from junior Brady Adam, but dropped its Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opener to Marymount (Va.), 2-0, on Friday afternoon at the Nationals Youth Academy.

Frostburg (11-3) notched just two hits and endured its first shutout loss of the season. Marymount (8-7) tallied its two runs on five hits.

Adam tossed 6.1 innings, allowing just four hits, two runs (one earned) with 10 strikeouts. It is the second outing with double-digit strikeouts for Adam, who notched 15 against New Rochelle on February 23.

Senior outfielders Kyle Burger and Matt Bougourd collected the lone two hits on the afternoon for Frostburg. With his single in the eighth, Bougourd extended his hitting streak to five-straight games. He has reached base in 12 consecutive games, now the second longest current streak on the team.

The Bobcats were held without a baserunner until the fifth inning before recording their first hit in the sixth.

Marymount plated the first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the second. An error put runners at first and second before a hit by pitch loaded the bases. A single to left scored a run, giving Marymount a 1-0 lead, but the Frostburg defense limited the damage with a tremendous relay throw from senior outfielder Evan Colon to junior catcher Garrett Blank for the final out of the inning.

Marymount added one more run in the sixth for the 2-0 final. Saints starter Collin Bazemore (2-1) went 7.2 innings while not allowing a run.

Frostburg threatened in the top of the eighth following a walk to Burger and a single from Bougourd. After a double steal put runners at second and third, a called third strike to senior designated hitter Logan Corrigan ended the inning.

Senior pitcher Dan Richardson finished the game for Frostburg with 1.2 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed just one hit with no runs and two strikeouts.

Schedule Update
Head coach Guy Robertson announced prior to today's game that the team's conference doubleheader with Penn State Harrisburg scheduled for tomorrow afternoon has been postponed. No makeup date was provided for the doubleheader.

Frostburg returns to the field on Sunday, March 25 with a non-conference road matchup at Gallaudet set for 2:00 p.m.
