#14/19 Baseball Slips In Extra Inning Loss to Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Frostburg State baseball team was on the wrong side of a late comeback from Pitt-Greensburg in a 10-8 extra inning loss Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

The loss snaps a nine-game winning streak for Frostburg, which settles at 11-2 overall. Meanwhile, Pitt-Greensburg improves its overall record to 4-5.

Senior outfielder Matt Bougourd had two of the Bobcats nine hits in the contest with a single and a double. Bougourd led the way with a game-high three RBI and has smacked six doubles this season.

Senior designated hitter Colton Sivic and sophomore infielder Devin Griffith also had two-hit games for Frostburg, which scored eight runs and took advantage of seven UPG errors.

Senior left-hander Logan Corrigan went 3.1 innings against UPG on Sunday, allowing four runs (two earned) with three strikeouts. FSU also received pitching contributions from junior Daniel Ryczek, seniors Dan Richardson and Trenton Eirch and junior Christian Rivera.

Frostburg struck first on Sunday, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead. Pitt-Greensburg countered with one run in the first and second innings to tie the non-conference matchup at two.

Sivic put Frostburg back in front quickly with a solo shot to left for a 3-2 edge. It was Sivic's first home run of the season.

UPG pushed across two more runs in the fourth inning to regain the lead at 4-3. Frostburg would counter back with a sacrifice fly in the fifth from senior Mike Takovich to tie things at four.

Frostburg put together a two-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Bougourd, to regain the lead at 7-4. FSU picked up one run in the seventh inning as senior Kyle Burger singled and advanced to second on an error, scoring junior Matt Thomas for an 8-5 cushion.

UPG found its stride offensively with five runs between the eight, ninth and tenth innings. Pitt-Greensburg had a pair of two-run home runs, the second of which ended the game in the tenth inning.

Frostburg begins Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, March 21 with a road matchup at Marymount (Va.) at 1:00 p.m.
