FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg junior Morgan Cavey scored four goals and handed out two assists, while first-year Lindsay Kohlman added three scores as the Bobcats dropped a non-conference women's lacrosse contest to Bridgewater, 19-13, Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.
The Eagles improved to 4-0 after using a 6-0 run over a seven-minute stretch in the second half that turned a narrow 9-8 lead into a 15-8 cushion.
Bridgewater later tacked on three-straight scores to jump out to a 19-10 advantage with 4:50 to play in regulation.
Kohlman gave the Bobcats (1-3-1) a spark late in the contest with the game's final three goals inside the final 2:10. She found the net on a free-position attempt with 37 seconds left in the game to set the final at 19-13.
Frostburg never led in the ballgame but pulled to within a goal of the Eagles on five occasions on the afternoon.
Morgan Cavey found first-year Summer Cavey for a goal at 12:30 in the first as the Bobcats trailed 3-2. Four minutes later, Morgan Cavey found sophomore Molly Biggers for another score that pulled the hosts to within one at 5-4.
Morgan Cavey closed the first half with an unassisted goal at 1:04 as FSU trailed just 7-5 at the break. Morgan Cavey opened the second half with another goal, this time on a free position at 29:14 as Frostburg was down just one, 7-6.
The Eagles answered with two goals to move ahead 9-6, but the Bobcats again narrowed the gap to one. Summer Cavey found Morgan Cavey for a score at 22:33 and Summer scored an unassisted goal at 21:31 as FSU was down just 9-8.
Bridgewater seized the momentum by rattling off six-straight for the 15-8 cushion.
Junior keeper Abigail McClure notched nine saves in a little over 40 minutes of action while surrendering 11 goals. Biggers grabbed eight draw controls, while junior Jessica Hartley posted five DCs.
Anna O'Hara led the Eagles with seven goals, while Dwyer Neal scored six.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday at Goucher at 4:30 pm.
