VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – First-year Ally Wieman pitched a complete game in a 6-4 win over Hunter and senior Allison Short tossed a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over Roanoke during day two of the Beach Blast Tournament, Saturday afternoon.
With two wins today, the Bobcats completed a clean sweep during the Beach Blast Tournament winning four out of four games improving their overall record to 6-4.
In game one, first-year Aliyah Ramey led the Bobcats at the plate with three hits, four runs batted in and one run scored.
In 7.0 innings, Wieman allowed 11 hits, three earned runs, while striking out seven batters with no walks.
Frostburg scored its six runs on nine hits in 26 at-bats and left nine runners on base, while Hunter totaled 11 hits in 31 at-bats and left 10 runners on base.
The Bobcats opened the game strongly, as Ramey recorded a double tallying two RBI that scored junior Olivia Ford and senior Sam Gatton. Next at-bat, first-year Taylor McCarty singled and scored Ramey from second to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Ramey knocked in sophomore Gabby Sandy with a single to take a 4-0 lead.
The Bobcats gave up four runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings which cut their lead to 6-4.
In the seventh Inning, Wieman struckout two batters to secure the Bobcats the victory.
In game two, Short tossed a one-hitter in 7.0 innings pitched with no walks and two strikeouts.
Frostburg generated nine hits with 30 at-bats while leaving 11 runners stranded on base, whereas Roanoke only recorded one hit with 22 at-bats and left one runner on base.
In the top of the second, Mehrling blasted a leadoff home run to center field giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
First-year Kat Treff singled to right field in the fourth inning knocking home Mehrling to give Frostburg a 2-0 advantage. For the inning, the Bobcats notched two hits but left two on base.
In the seventh inning, Short faced just three batters to finish the game and earn the win.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 14
th for their home opener against Catholic set for 3:00 p.m.
