Colon Hits Two HRs; Baseball Cruises To Sixth Win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Senior Evan Colon continued his hot start and six of Frostburg's seven pitchers recorded a strikeout as the Bobcats cruised to a 10-1 win over New Rochelle, Sunday.

The victory is the sixth of the young season for the Bobcats (6-1) and is the fourth straight. It also marks the second time in three seasons that FSU has won six of its first seven games. In 2015, Frostburg opened with 12-straight wins.

The win over New Rochelle wrapped up the Bobcats' second weekend in Fayetteville. Frostburg won all three games this weekend and in impressive fashion by scoring more than 10 runs in all three wins. The Bobcats totaled 38 runs and their average margin of victory was by nearly 12 runs.

The Blue Angels mustered just three hits and one run against the seven different pitchers for Frostburg.

Senior Logan Corrigan got the start and fanned three in two shutout innings. Junior Chase Delost got credit for the win, while fanning one batter and pitching just the third inning.

Juniors Daniel Ryczek and Travis Brashear each punched out a batter in the fourth and fifth innings as neither allowed a hit. Senior Daniel Richardson struckout three in two innings, while sophomore Mike Livingston fanned four over the final two frames.

Frostburg scored all three of the runs it needed for the win in the third, but exploded for five in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

At the plate, Colon stroked a pair of home runs, scored three times and drove in three. He finished 3-for-4 and he drove in three runs for the third time this season.

Senior Pat Bosley (2-for-3) and junior Nick Fuhrmann (2-for-4) each drove in two runs and had two hits, while senior Kyle Burger (2-for-4) and junior Brock Antognoni (1-for-3) each scored twice.

Colon scored the first run as the leadoff batter in the third as he laced a solo home run to left field before Burger and Antognoni both singled and later scored for the 3-0 lead. Burger came home on an error, while Antognoni crossed home plate on a ground out from Bosley.

Burger got things rolling in the fourth when he singled home Colon and later scored on a passed ball. Fuhrmann doubled home two more and Bosley singled home Fuhrmann for the final run and an 8-0 cushion.

The Blue Angels scored their only run on a single through the right side in the top of the fifth.

The Bobcats answered with their final two runs on a Colon home run to left in the bottom of the fifth.

Frostburg returns to the field next Friday when it faces Stevenson in the Baltimore Tournament on Stevenson's campus.
