WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Frostburg State softball head coach Wes Landrum collected his 300
th career win in the first game of the day against Shenandoah (7-0) and cruised to a 13-5 win against Brandies in game two, Saturday.
Game One
Frostburg scored seven runs on eight hits and left six runners on base, while Shenandoah recorded three hits and also left six runners on base.
The Bobcats scored two in the first inning with a single from sophomore Katelyn Mehrling that scored junior Olivia Ford and senior Sam Gatton for a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, first-year Taylor McCarty and Mehrling hit back-to-back home runs giving the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.
Senior Brittany Platt singled in the sixth inning, scoring Ford for her second run of the contest giving Frostburg a 7-0 lead.
Senior pitcher Allison Short struckout three batters and only allowed three hits in the shutout win in 7.0 innings, while improving her record to 1-1 on the season.
Game Two
The Bobcats opened up their scoring in game two with 13 runs, on 12 hits and nine runs batted in, but left 12 runners on base.
First-year Ally Wieman collected the first win of her career in 6.0 innings pitched striking out three batters and allowing five earned runs. Wieman improves her record to 1-1.
First-year Aliyah Ramey earned two RBI on a single in the first inning that scored Ford and Gatton.
Brandies answered in the bottom half of the first, as Jolie Fujita doubled and logged two RBI knotting the score 2-2.
In the fifth inning, sophomore Sam Carver scored on a wild pitch, while classmate Claire Hanlon scored on a fielder's choice giving the Bobcats a 7-3 lead.
Mehrling recorded a double in the sixth inning to score McCarty and Ford for Frostburg's final runs of the day and the 13-5 win.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, March 3rd as they travel to Randolph-Macon for a double-header at 1:00 p.m.
