Women’s Basketball Dominates Against Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday the Frostburg State women's basketball team powered by the Catholic Cardinals for a 61-36 non-conference win. The Bobcats move to 7-2 on the season while the Cardinals fall to 4-4.

To open the game the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run to give themselves a cushion before junior Sydney Stotler answered with a layup at 4:24. After the layup by Stotler, the Bobcats went on a 10-0 run from Stotler, and juniors Amanda Emory and Victoria Yoder to bring themselves back into the game. The first quarter ended with a three-pointer by Stotler assisted by senior Megan Kelly to bring the score to 13-9 Bobcats.

The Cardinals answered in the opening of the second quarter with a jumper by Megan Stafford at 8:57. Shortly after, Emory converted on one-of-two free throws to bring the score to 14-11. To continue the quarter it was a back and forth between the Bobcats and Cardinals until the Bobcats pulled away with the lead after a converted free throw by Yoder, a layup by Emory and a three-pointer by junior Victoria Diggs. The Bobcats went into halftime off two good free throws by Diggs to have the 28-19 lead.

The third quarter was another powerful quarter for the Bobcats as they scored 17 points with only two points from the Cardinals. Frostburg had runs from Stotler, sophomore Kayla Wilson, Yoder, and Emory. Stotler kicked off the runs with a layup in the paint at 8:23. Wilson also added to the scoring with a jumper at 6:48. Yoder converted on two free throws to bring the score to 34-21. Emory contributed with a layup at 3:38 and then Yoder added to the score again with a jumper at 2:28. Several more free throws and layups brought the score to 45-21.

Diggs opened the fourth quarter for the Bobcats with an immediate three-pointer at 9:10 and then not even a minute later, Kelly joined with another three-pointer to make the score 51-22. Shortly after, first-year Anna Reese converted on a layup to continue pushing the Bobcats ahead. Diggs had a second three-pointer in the quarter at 5:50 to make the score 56-29 after the Cardinals converted on a handful of points. First-year Jada Holland closed out the game with a free throw 1:42 to give the final score of 61-36.

Diggs led the Bobcats with 16 points but shortly behind her was Stotler with 14. Stotler stood out with six-of-seven field goals, and 14 rebounds. Frostburg shot 38.6% from the field and was 35.3% on three-pointers while Catholic shot 20.0% from the field and was 15.8% on three-pointers. Luca Mamula Sydney Poindexter and Megan Stafford powered Catholic in points.

Frostburg returns to action on December 29 at Mount Aloysius for a 1:00 pm tipoff.
