Frostburg Rolls To Fourth-Straight Win

CRESSON, Pa. – The Frostburg women's basketball team closed out the 2018 portion of its schedule with a 74-62 win over Mount Aloysius on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves FSU to 8-2 overall on the season, while the loss drops the Mounties to 2-9. The win is the second of the season for Frostburg against Mount Aloysius as the Bobcats claimed a 72-46 victory in mid-November at the Jim Crawley Classic.

The Bobcats rebounded from a slow first quarter with an 11-0 run to open the second quarter to take control. Sophomore Jada Holland opened the second frame with a layup at 9:43 and moments later she hit another layup for a 22-16 cushion.

Junior Victoria Yoder connected on a three-pointer at 6:51 and Frostburg's lead ballooned to 25-16. She hit a second three exactly 60 seconds later for FSU's first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 28-17.

Holland, sophomore Kayla Wilson and senior Megan Kelly each connected on baskets late in the second as Frostburg led by 16 on several occasions. The Bobcats led 44-32 at intermission.

The Mounties made things interesting in the third quarter as they pulled to within six, 53-47 at 4:40. Rachel Robinson hit a layup at 6:10, knocked down a three-pointer at 5:24 and connected on two free throws at 4:40.

Bobcat first-year Anna Reese converted a traditional three-point play at 3:44 to push the lead back to 10, 59-49 following three quarters of play.

In the fourth, FSU led by as many as 13 points and Kelly and Yoder closed the game with four free throws inside the final 30 seconds.

Yoder led the Bobcats on the afternoon with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, with five assists and three steals. Wilson finished with 11 and junior Sydney Stotler led with seven boards.

Mount Aloysius' Breana Kendrick led all players with 25 points and Robinson finished with 10.

The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they host Mary Washington at 6:00 pm.
