FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg women's basketball team outscored Wilson 23-7 in the first quarter en route to a dominating 76-33 win, Monday night at Bobcat Arena.
Kai Wyatt connected on a pair of three-pointers for the Phoenix (2-4), but the first quarter belonged to Frostburg (6-2) as it led by 13 following three's from junior Sydney Stotler and sophomore Kayla Wilson.
The Bobcats closed the opening frame with a 23-7 cushion thanks to a layup from first-year Anna Reese off an assist from Stotler.
The second wasn't any different in the stat sheet as Frostburg increased its lead to 23, 32-13, just past the midway point of the second on a layup from junior Amanda Emory.
Junior Victoria Yoder hit two free throws with 12 seconds left in the opening half as the Bobcats held a commanding 42-18 lead at intermission.
Yoder again posted two free throws at 5:07 in the third as Frostburg's lead ballooned to 36, 57-21.
Sophomore Jada Holland hit a jumper at 3:54 and knocked down a layup at 2:10 as Frostburg led by 43 points. Sophomore Grace Butera capped the night with layup with 45 seconds left to set the final at 76-33.
The Bobcats shot 51.8 percent from the floor (29-of-56) and turned 14 offensive rebounds into 22 points. FSU took advantage of its height advantage by outscoring the Phoenix 32-8 in the paint.
Four different players scored in double figures for the hosts as they were led by Wilson with 14 points and four three-pointers. Yoder contributed 13 points, while Emory and Holland each added 10.
Wyatt led Wilson with 16 of the team's 33 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday, December 8 with a road contest at Catholic at 2:00 pm.
