MARIETTA, Ohio – The Frostburg State women's basketball team lost to Hiram, 83-73, in the consolation game of the 2018 Marietta Turkey Shoot, Sunday.
The loss drops Frostburg to 4-2 overall on the young season while Hiram moved to 2-3.
Junior Victoria Diggs led the Bobcats with a season-best 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting with six three-pointers and earned all-tournament honors. She knocked down a three late in the first quarter that handed the Bobcats a 27-21 lead after the first. FSU also led by six midway through the frame when junior Amanda Emory hit a jumper off an assist from senior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla.
The Terriers rebounded in the second quarter when they claimed a 10-0 run to lead by 11, 50-39 with 27 seconds left until halftime. Diggs brought the deficit back to single digits when she closed the opening half with another three-pointer with eight seconds showing.
Hiram extended its lead to 16 twice in the third quarter and led by 16 early in the fourth when Frostburg made a small run to cut the score to 73-64.
Diggs started the spurt with a three-pointer at 7:09, sophomore Kayla Wilson knocked down two baskets and Emory hit a layup at 5:58 as FSU trailed by just nine.
Hiram answered by pushing its lead back above 10 points and holding it there until the final horn. Diggs closed the afternoon with another three-pointer with 43 seconds left to set the final at 83-73.
Frostburg finished with four players in double figures as Emory and Wilson each poured in 12, while junior Sydney Stotler scored 10 and led with seven boards.
The Bobcats shot 54.4 percent from the floor and made more baskets and three-pointers than the Terriers. However, Hiram was 20-of-23 from the foul line and FSU was just 2-of-2.
Tashauna Wright scored a game-high 26 to lead HC, while Madison Branch and Alainna Conroy each contributed 14.
FSU returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Juniata at 6:00 pm.
