Marietta Pulls Away From Frostburg Men

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta men's basketball team pulled away from Frostburg in the second half for an 84-59 win on Tuesday night.
 
The loss is the first of the season for the Bobcats who settle at 2-1, while the Pioneers improve to 5-0.
 
Frostburg hung tough in the first half as the game went back and forth for much of the stanza. FSU's first lead of the opening half came at 11:03 when senior Edwin Cole connected on a layup off a pass from junior Lawrence Pettis for a 19-17 lead.
 
Just over 30 seconds before Cole's layup, junior Daniel Alexander hit a three-pointer that tied the game at 17-17.
 
Junior Jordan Dawson hit a layup at 9:34 for a 23-20 lead and he connected on a free throw at 8:59 to give the Bobcats another three-point lead at 25-22. Later in the half, Alexander hit three-pointer that helped the Bobcats tie the game at 33 at intermission.
 
The Pioneers, however, took control in the second half with a 20-2 run that covered nearly seven minutes and handed the hosts a 71-47 edge with just 3:08 to play.
 
Frostburg sophomore Drake Bowman made the game's final basket with 18 seconds left when he hit a three-pointer off an assist from first-year Jamil Jones.
 
Alexander and Cole led the offensive attack for the Bobcats as Alexander poured in 17 and Cole added 16. Cole also managed 15 rebounds and three blocks.
 
Marietta's Caleb Hoyng finished 7-for-10 from the floor with 18 points, while Mike Hall added 12 points.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational when it takes on the host Tartans at 3:00 pm.
