YORK, Pa. – The Frostburg volleyball team had its 2018 campaign come to a close Tuesday night with a five-set loss at York (Pa.) in the opening round of the 2018 CAC Tournament.
The Bobcats end their campaign with an 11-23 overall record after hanging tough with the Spartans (20-8) all match.
Frostburg defeated York 3-0 back on Oct. 13 at Bobcat Arena. However, the Spartans advance to the CAC semifinals and will visit second-seed Christopher Newport on Thursday night.
On Tuesday night, Frostburg rallied from a 1-0 deficit after the Spartans took game one, 25-22. The Bobcats captured game two, 25-20, and narrowly lost the third set 26-24.
FSU matched its game-two win in the fourth set with another 25-20 win, before the Spartans closed out the set with a 15-7 win in the fifth and decisive game.
Frostburg posted 46 kills in the five sets, to go along with 86 digs, 42 assists, seven blocks and five aces.
First-year Haley Altemus led the charge with 13 kills, while juniors Biambi Tshitenge and Bailey Godlove each posted 12. Junior Ashante Corey-Bey posted six blocks, while classmate Katie Onyundo posted 39 assists.
Junior Cori Smothers led the Bobcats with 23 digs, while Altemus collected 19. Junior Hannah Brown posted 14 digs.
